People throw away old glass bottles as garbage. But, for Ranjini Thampi, they are no less than a treasure. She makes beautiful home decor items out of these old bottles. Ranjini, 35, has found a great way of earning from this skill. She is the owner of a startup company named Vapasee. Ranjini has transformed over 21,000 glass bottles into home decor items and art pieces. They have been used to make items such as table lamps, side table decorations, wall hangings.

Ranjini studied in Dubai. After marriage in 2015, she moved to Kochi. On coming to India, he took leave from work. He was very interested in art and craft since childhood. As soon as he got free time, he worked in the field of his interest. Ranjini started making paintings. But, she was also looking for some purpose in her art. One day he went to the scrap dealer’s place. She had to buy some old instruments for her husband’s sound studio. There he saw that many things were lying like this. It was of no use. There he got the idea of using glass waste. And on talking more, many scrap dealers gave them glass bottles for free. Then they started collecting things like tire rims, buckets, glasses and tin cans.

Success Story of Ranjini Thampi
From these collected things, Ranjini made home decor items. Along with using it at home, also gave it to friends. Within no time, he started getting orders from friends and family. Many of these families were such that they wanted their products to refurbish their homes. When the orders started increasing more and more, he started the startup in 2021. Its name is Vapasee. Earlier in 2020, she came in contact with an organization named Climate Collective. This organization promotes sustainable business. Ranjini India reached the semi-finals without any experience in business.
Ranjini’s mentor told her to apply for the program at IIM Bangalore. It was for startup. He got selected after applying. He learned all aspects of business at IIM-Bangalore. Ranjini offers a wide range of home decor products through her startup venture. These include bowls, centerpieces, tables, lamps and artpieces. She says she has converted over 21,000 glass bottles into home decor items. Apart from glass, he has transformed over 5,000 coconut shells, over 800 kg of wood and 500 kg of metal waste into beautiful items and art pieces. So far she has sold more than 5,000 such products.
